Serengeti National Park, located in northern Tanzania, is a world-famous wildlife sanctuary and a crown jewel of African safaris. Covering an expansive area of 14,750 square kilometers, the Serengeti is renowned for its endless golden plains, teeming wildlife, and breathtaking natural beauty. The park forms part of the greater Serengeti ecosystem, which includes the Ngorongoro Conservation Area and Kenya’s Maasai Mara Reserve. Its unparalleled biodiversity and the spectacular Great Migration—one of the largest animal migrations on Earth—make it a bucket-list destination for nature lovers and adventure seekers worldwide.
Designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site, Serengeti National Park is home to the Big Five (lion, leopard, elephant, rhinoceros, and buffalo) alongside over 2 million wildebeest, 200,000 zebras, and hundreds of other species. Its ecosystems, ranging from vast grasslands to acacia woodlands and rocky outcrops, support a remarkable diversity of wildlife. Beyond the incredible game viewing, the park also offers cultural insights into the traditions of the indigenous Maasai people who live in its surrounding areas. Serengeti’s iconic landscapes and wildlife make it one of the most celebrated and sought-after safari destinations in Africa.
The name Serengeti originates from the Maasai word Siringet, which means “the place where the land runs on forever” or “endless plains.” This poetic description perfectly captures the vast, open landscapes that define the Serengeti ecosystem. For centuries, the Maasai people have lived in harmony with this sprawling wilderness, grazing their livestock on the grasslands that stretch as far as the eye can see. To the Maasai, the Serengeti is more than just a place; it is a sacred land that embodies freedom, sustenance, and coexistence with nature.
The meaning of Serengeti reflects the park’s essence—a seemingly infinite expanse of pristine wilderness that hosts one of the most dynamic ecosystems on Earth. Its vast plains serve as the stage for dramatic wildlife spectacles, such as the Great Migration, and symbolize the raw, unspoiled beauty of Africa. This timeless name has become synonymous with adventure, discovery, and the spirit of exploration, drawing travelers from around the globe to experience the awe-inspiring landscapes that inspired its name.
Serengeti National Park offers a wide range of activities that provide unforgettable experiences for every type of traveler. From thrilling game drives that bring you face-to-face with Africa’s iconic wildlife to serene hot air balloon rides offering breathtaking views, the park is a haven for adventure and discovery. Visitors can immerse themselves in the natural wonders of the Great Migration, explore the wilderness on foot through walking safaris, or marvel at the park’s rich birdlife. Additionally, cultural tours with the Maasai people provide a deeper connection to the land and its heritage. Serengeti’s activities cater to both thrill-seekers and those seeking tranquility, making it a top destination for immersive wildlife and cultural exploration.
January – March
This is the calving season, with thousands of wildebeest giving birth in the southern Serengeti. It’s an incredible time to witness newborns and the predators they attract, such as lions and cheetahs. The lush green scenery enhances the beauty of the plains, making it perfect for photography.
April – May
Known as the long rainy season, this period sees fewer tourists, offering a more exclusive safari experience. While some roads can be muddy, the Serengeti is at its greenest, and wildlife remains abundant, especially around water sources. Birdwatching is exceptional during this time.
June – July
The dry season begins, and the Great Migration moves northward toward the Grumeti River. This is the best time to witness dramatic river crossings and large predator activity. The weather is cooler, and game viewing is excellent across the park.
August – September
The migration reaches the northern Serengeti, near the Mara River. Witness the thrilling spectacle of wildebeest crossing the crocodile-infested waters. Dry weather and short grass make it easier to spot wildlife, making this peak safari season.
October – November
As the short rains begin, the migration starts moving back south toward the central Serengeti. Wildlife remains active, and the landscapes begin to transform into a vibrant green. It’s a quieter time with fewer crowds.
December
The migration reaches the southern Serengeti plains, preparing for the calving season once again. This month offers a perfect mix of wildlife action, lush scenery, and warm weather, making it an excellent time for game drives and photography.

Jackline RodneyVerified Green season experience Our 8-day safari with **Safari Peak** was truly an unforgettable adventure. From the very first day, we knew we were in good hands with our amazing guide, Mr. Linus, whose experience, knowledge, and warm personality made the journey even more special. We explored some of Tanzania’s most iconic destinations, starting with **Ndutu**. The landscape was beautifully green from the rains, and although the weather was wet, it brought the plains to life. We witnessed herds of wildebeest and zebras grazing across the open fields, lions resting under acacia trees, and dramatic skies that made every moment feel magical. The rain added a sense of adventure — muddy roads, fresh air, and fewer vehicles around us. Our journey continued to the breathtaking **Ngorongoro Crater**, a place unlike any other. Descending into the crater felt like entering a natural paradise. Despite the mist and light rain, we saw an incredible variety of wildlife — elephants, hippos, buffalo, and even a rhino in the distance. Mr. Linus shared fascinating stories and facts about the ecosystem, making every sighting more meaningful. In **Serengeti National Park**, the endless plains stretched beyond the horizon. Even with the rain showers, the experience was extraordinary. We saw giraffes walking gracefully against dramatic storm clouds, cheetahs scanning the plains, and lions moving through the tall grass. The rain sometimes made the roads challenging, but it never stopped our adventure. Instead, it made the safari feel real and wild — exactly what we had hoped for. Traveling during the rainy season turned out to be a blessing. The scenery was lush and vibrant, the wildlife was active, and the parks felt peaceful without large crowds. There were moments of laughter as we navigated muddy tracks, and moments of awe as the sun broke through the clouds to create stunning sunsets. Thanks to Safari Peak and our wonderful guide Mr. Linus, we completed our 8-day safari full of unforgettable memories. Rain or shine — we did it, and it was absolutely worth it. Wiston IVerified 7 kilimanjaro trekking adventures ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Amazing 7-Day Mount Kilimanjaro Climb with Safari Peak I recently completed a 7-day climb of Mount Kilimanjaro with Safari Peak, and it was truly an unforgettable experience. From the moment we arrived, everything was perfectly organized. The team welcomed us warmly and provided a detailed briefing before the climb. The guides were professional, knowledgeable, and incredibly supportive throughout the entire trek. They monitored our health daily, encouraged proper acclimatization, and always made safety the top priority. The 7-day itinerary was well planned and allowed enough time to adjust to the altitude. Each day brought different landscapes — from lush rainforest to rocky alpine desert. The camp setup was comfortable, the tents were good quality, and the food exceeded expectations for a mountain climb. The cooks did an amazing job keeping us well fed and energized. Summit night was the most challenging part, but with the motivation and encouragement from the guides, we successfully reached Uhuru Peak. Watching the sunrise from the roof of Africa was emotional and absolutely worth the effort. What stood out most was the teamwork and positive attitude of the entire crew — guides, porters, and cooks. They truly cared about our success and comfort. I highly recommend Safari Peak to anyone planning to climb Kilimanjaro. Their professionalism, organization, and hospitality made this adventure safe, smooth, and memorable. It was not just a climb — it was a life-changing achievement. Paradise22942795801Verified 10 days Amazing Tanzania Safari with Safari Peak Unforgettable 10-Day Safari with Safari Peak We had an incredible 10-day Tanzania safari with Safari Peak, and it truly exceeded all our expectations. From the first contact to the final day, everything was professionally organized and stress-free. The itinerary was perfectly planned, covering amazing destinations like Tarangire, Serengeti, Ngorongoro Crater, and Lake Manyara. Each park offered unique landscapes and unforgettable wildlife experiences. We saw the Big Five, the Great Migration, and countless other animals up close. Our guide was outstanding—very knowledgeable, patient, and passionate about wildlife and Tanzanian culture. He always knew the best spots for game viewing and made sure we were comfortable and safe throughout the journey. The accommodations were excellent, well selected, clean, and located in beautiful areas close to nature. Meals were delicious, and the safari vehicle was well maintained, spacious, and perfect for photography. Safari Peak paid attention to every detail and was always flexible to our needs. Their communication was clear, honest, and friendly, which made us feel confident and well taken care of. This 10-day safari was truly a once-in-a-lifetime experience, and we highly recommend Safari Peak to anyone planning a safari in Tanzania. We would definitely travel with them again! Jackie FVerified Unbelievable Safari Experience We wanted to experience all that Tanzania had to offer in a wildlife safari and Zanzabar experience. We wanted to find a local company and settled on Safari Peak, and are so glad we did. Richard was so helpful and knowledgeable in working through the details of our dream trip. The trip was beyond our expectations and we can’t imagine a better experience. Our expert guide, Linus, was the best, leading us to wildlife sighting beyond our expectations, with “Wow” moments everyday. Richard, accompanied us to make sure that all aspects of our trip were perfect. Every accommodation, including our 4 night stay in Zanzabar, were fantastic. Our only regret was ending our trip. It felt like leaving family. Thank you Safari Peak. We feel so lucky to have shared this “once in a lifetime” experience. Ludwig FVerified Unvergessliche 3-tägige Safari in Tansania – einfach perfekt! Resort24765278715Verified Wonderful 7 day Kilimanjaro Trek and 6 day Serengeti Safari with local company. Safari Peak organised a 2 week holiday for my son and I in July. This included transport to/from Nairobi and Arusha; hotel in Arusha, the 7 day Machame camping trek route up Kilimanjaro and a 6 day jeep safari across the Serengeti up to the north for the wildebeest migration. Safari Peak is a local company based in Arusha. They were pro-active and responsive in organising everything. They put together a great team of 13 for the trek: The guides were really helpful, the food for breakfast, lunch and dinner was pretty good for camping around 4000m (we always had too much!) and there was plenty of water. It was an amazing experience overall. For the safari, the accommodation choices were excellent including 3 nights in luxury tented camps in the Serengeti – definitely a recommendation to either wake up watching animals graze, and/or to listen to all the different animals around the tent at night. We saw all the animals the Serengeti is famous for, and a lot of these close up to the vehicle, but my favourite experience was driving off the main tracks, away from other vehicles and just parking up and listening to all the birds and noises, and if your patient the animals too. There was a few moments with the Safari Peak team which made our time in Tanzania feel very special and unique, and we got to feel the warmth of the people who live there. Safari Peak made us feel very welcome in Tanzania and left us with a lifelong impression of the people and country. Overall, I would strongly recommend Safari Peak. Neeter YVerified The Majestic Kilimanjaro **Unforgettable 8-Day Lemosho Route Trek with Safari Peak & Guide Sistus** I just returned from the incredible 8-day Lemosho Route trek to Mount Kilimanjaro, and I am beyond thrilled with my experience, thanks to Safari Peak and our amazing guide, Sistus. From start to finish, this trip exceeded all expectations, and I couldn't have asked for a better team to support me along the way. Sistus was the highlight of the entire trek. He is an exceptional guide—knowledgeable, experienced, and incredibly supportive. His expertise on the mountain and its terrain was evident, but what stood out the most was his calm and encouraging presence. He took the time to ensure that everyone in our group was comfortable, well-informed, and properly acclimatized, offering guidance at every step. His sense of humor and positive energy were a huge morale booster, especially on the more challenging days. The Lemosho Route itself was breathtaking, with every day bringing a new, stunning landscape—dense forests, open savannahs, and the dramatic alpine desert as we neared the summit. The 8-day itinerary gave us the perfect balance of time for acclimatization, which helped avoid altitude sickness and made the whole experience much more enjoyable. The team from Safari Peak did an amazing job with logistics. Our porters were always hard at work, ensuring that our camps were set up before we arrived and that everything was in order. The food was consistently delicious and hearty, and I was amazed at the variety they managed to prepare at such high altitudes. The tents were well-kept, and we felt truly cared for during the entire trek. Summiting Kilimanjaro was an emotional and triumphant moment, and I owe so much of that success to Sistus and the whole Safari Peak crew. Their professionalism, expertise, and genuine care made this once-in-a-lifetime adventure a reality. If you’re looking for an exceptional Kilimanjaro experience, I highly recommend Safari Peak. Ask for Sistus as your guide—you won’t regret it!
