Day by Day

Day 1 -Arrival In JRO - Original Masai Lodge

Upon arrival, a Safari Peak representative will greet you at the airport and transport you to your accommodation at the Traditional Maasai Honeymoon Suite, Africa Amini Life, where you can relax and unwind in anticipation of the exciting adventures ahead.

On this day, your Maasai guide will introduce you to a variety of activities, including nature walks to discover medicinal plants, donkey rides with the Maasai, sundowner dances (dancing at sunset with the Maasai), Maasai television (MTV) and storytelling, spear throwing like a Maasai, and exercise with a scenic view. After hearing descriptions of each activity, you can choose the one that interests you most. Please note that activities are tailored to your arrival time and the duration of your stay.

On the second day, after enjoying your chosen activities, you will relax at the lodge until late afternoon. After lunch, you will embark on a drive back to Karatu, where you will prepare for the next adventure—visiting more parks and experiencing an exciting game drive with unlimited mileage.

After breakfast, you’ll meet with the  driver-guide for a brief safari briefing before heading to Tarangire National Park. The drive takes you through the Masai Steppe and several villages to the park’s entrance. Tarangire, the fifth-largest national park in Tanzania, is located at the base of the Great East African Rift Valley. The park is known for its diverse landscapes, including acacia woodlands, baobab trees, and the Tarangire River, which provides a vital water source for wildlife during the dry season.

Highlights of the park include large elephant populations and rare species like the Great Kudu, Fringed-Eared Oryx, and Ash Stalling. You can also expect to see buffalo, zebra, wildebeest, giraffes, hippos, and various primates. Predators like lions, leopards, cheetahs, and hyenas are also present. Birdwatchers will enjoy Tarangire’s rich diversity, with over 400 bird species, including ostriches, herons, and migratory birds.

.

After breakfast, you will set out with a picnic lunch for a full-day game drive. Serengeti National Park is one of the world’s greatest game parks. Meaning “endless plains” in the Maasai language, it is Tanzania’s oldest game reserve and is world-famous for the role it plays in the annual Great Migration when an estimated two million herbivores – mostly wildebeest and zebra – migrate from the Serengeti to Kenya’s Maasai Mara Game Reserve.

You will leave the safari camp at your leisure for another full-day game viewing in the Serengeti National Park. During June, the migrating herds will be collecting in the western corridor, preparing to cross the Grumeti River. Even when the migration is quiet, the Serengeti offers some of the most exciting game viewing – great herds of buffalo, smaller groups of elephant and giraffe, as well as thousands of elands, topi, hartebeest, impala, and Grant’s gazelle.

After an early breakfast, you will drive to the fascinating wildlife arena of the Ngorongoro Conservation Area. The crater, a UNESCO World Heritage site, is over 260km2 (100 miles2) and was formed when a massive volcano exploded and collapsed on itself 2 – 3 million years ago. It is now the largest intact volcanic caldera in the world and is often referred to as “Africa’s Eden”. Home to more than 25,000 large mammals – it is not unusual to see all of the ‘Big Five (buffalo, elephant, rhino, lion, and leopard) in a single day. Driving through the Ngorongoro Highlands, you will arrive at the crater rim and then descend down 610m (2000 feet) onto its floor to start your safari extravaganza.

After breakfast, your guide will take you to Mto wa Mbu village for a cultural tour. You’ll have the opportunity to try banana beer, visit a traditional home, learn about Makonde carving, and enjoy a delicious home-cooked meal prepared in the traditional way.

In the afternoon, you’ll drive back to Arusha. If you’re not flying on the same day, you can stop by the Masai market or visit local shopping centers on your way. You will arrive in Arusha late afternoon for your overnight stay (accommodation can be arranged upon request for an additional cost).

If you are flying the same day, we will take you to Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO) for your flight home. KLM, which departs from Kilimanjaro at 21:30, is a great option for your return journey.
